icanhasmoarfishplox?

today i woke up at 5:00 AM to go fishing off hawaii kai about 28 miles off shore for some mahi mahi. we ended up catching 3 mahi mahi and 2 ono. one of the mahi mahis i fought and won... obviously. cranking in about 100 feet of line with drag and a dead weight fighting is very hard. then i realized torque was being applied everytime i turned the spool of the reel. the stupid handle was so short that it ended up being way easier to hand reel the fish in.

this weekend i was playing my ukulele when i finally realized i should do a journal entry. so in an ukulele there is some good physics principles. the most obvious is vibrations from the strings as u pluck or strum the chords. the body of the ukulele is hollow which allows the air passing through it echo and create forced vibrations in the body which acts as a natural amplifier. the body of the ukulele has a natural frequency that it wants to vibrate at and if that exact frequency were reachable and sustained the body would break due to excessive resonance.

this is my finger. stupid camera doesnt know how to focus. anyways this is supposed to be a picture of the puss marks or scabs on my finger from touching that capacitor on the disposable camera like 20 times... if u dont know by now... then u fail and go watch the videos. well anyways we learned in class that capacitors are charged by separating electrons and protons onto 2 different conductors with a insulator. we also learned that capacitors, unlike batteries can dump all its energy at once. teh fingar is still tendar but still goods!

This weekend i went to the gas station down the street which was all renovated with new fancy pumps that are all automated and good stuff. i went to pay and on the way back to the car i saw this sign. the sign indicats to turn of your cell phone while filling up in case the spark from the components may ignite the gas fumes. and i was like hey we are learning about charge in class so lets take a picture and talk about it in this blog... because thats what cool people do!

OPEN TEH BOXX!

Over this christmas break, a giant wooden crate arrived at my house. I was woken up and told to get dressed and come downstairs. I was met with a box that I was supposed to open. At first I didnt know how to open it... then I realized I needed a crowbar to release all the nails. It took me a good 4 hours of prying nails from the wood until I could open the actual box. The torque I exerted on the nail by using a pivot point and increasing my arm length with the bar allowed me to do a job that wouldve taken over 1 week to do without a crowbar. Hooray for physics!

this whole week the weather was no fun. too much rain and too much wind. we did get to have a break from school on wednesday :D the surf report for the north shore was pretty EXTREME! 20-25+ foot waves. waves are usually measured from the back meaning the face was nearing 40+ feet! unlike a regular theoretical wave which consistently repeats itself for infinity, ocean waves take the water before it and pulls it up making the base of the face lower than the base of the back.

HI vs. GA SUGARBOWLLL!

This weekend I went to the UH football game...and what a game that was! the perfect ending to a perfect season. The game was fun watching the warriors come back from 21-0 in the first quarter. The game was NUTTSSS! so nuts that santa even stopped by for a visit, rushing the field and dancing around for a few minutes before anyone realized he was on the field. Sitting in aloha stadium with a sold out game of crazy fans is a perfect example of resonance and waves. Once hawaii started picking up momentum (< u see wut i did tharr?) the fans began jumping up and down and cheering. the stadium felt like it was rocking and bouncing with the movement of the fans. i was scared for the stadium to collapse... that would not have been good. but anyways we won the stadium is still standing... ITS ALL GOOD BABY!! SUGARBOWL!
